Cycling from Newcastle – Friday, May 3

This Friday at 5:30, we ride from the home of Mel and Mich (M&M) in Newcastle.

Mich is aiming for a nice flat early season ride and he will provide route maps.

Remember to bring for the potluck your buffet offering and beverages, as well as your crystal, porcelain, and silverware.

One more thing everyone – pray for good weather – we need a Friday ride!! Current forecast for Friday calls for cloudy and a high of 12. So dress warmly.

Looking forward to seeing y’all.

Cycling from Peterborough – Tuesday, April 30

Join us this Tuesday at 10:00 am for a nice flat ride for the start of the season. Paul B. is your host – he will provide for riders a map and cuesheet for a simple ride from Peterborough’s Parkhill Bridge to Young’s Point and back. Map shows using the trail to Lakefield but riders can also use the road.

People can just go to Lakefield and eat and shop, or to Young’s Point and eat and shop at Lockside Trading or eat at the end of the ride. There is a restaurant beside the trail where we park at the Parkhill Street Bridge or some might go to Verona’s.

Starting location: Parkhill Bridge is at the corner of Parkhill and Auburn St. This is where the Greenway trail crosses Parkhill. You park on Auburn St. beside the trail. Below are two route options to get you to starting location.

Simplest: go up CR28 which becomes Hwy 7. Turn right at Parkhill rd. Go through the city and just east of George and Water St., cross the river. Immediately turn left onto Auburn St.

Faster route that doesn’t go through the city: Go up CR28 to Hwy 115. Go east on Hwy 115 to the end. There you will go straight ahead on Television rd. Go up Television road to Parkhill rd. Turn left. After passing Armour rd., go down the hill to the river. Turn right just before the bridge onto Auburn St.

Friday, April 19 Season Opener Update

Folks, it looks like the weather gods will follow through on the nasty weather prediction for our kick-off ride tomorrow.

Fear not, we shall feast!

We’re looking forward to a hearty waiver-signing party. Arrive as early as 4:00 pm to reconnect with great cycling friends and enjoy a buffet only Freewheelers can pull off.

Please comment to let Brenda and Wayne know you’ll be there!

Cycling from Cobourg – Tuesday, April 23

Vivian is hosting our first Tuesday ride of the season following the Millers ride from the Mill in Cobourg.

A note from your host:

I have ridden Payne a few times this spring and it is hard packed dirt. Crossen is closed so we will stay on #15. Cornish Hollow also has some hardpacked dirt areas but I have ridden it. Please print a map from the website. See you at 10am ready to ride!

Friday, April 19 – Riding from Baltimore

If you haven’t had a chance yet to bring out your wheels and enjoy some spring cycling, take heart – Brenda and Wayne are hosting our kickoff ride of the year, followed by a traditional potluck.

Join us at their home in Baltimore as early as 1:00 p.m. rain or shine for a 2:00 p.m. start to the ride! We’ll be following the Spring Fling – only we are starting and ending at Nagle Road. Distances are 32, 41, and 45 kilometres. Hardcore spring riders will also have the option of adding Bickle Hill Road! For anyone wanting to do just a short loop (ie. shorter than what is shown on the route map), it is quite a nice ride into town from our house along part of the waterfront trail and back along Elgin Street or Densmore Road to Nagle Road and home.

Remember to bring your potluck offering, beverage of choice, plates, glasses and cutlery. And pray to the weather gods!

Important Note: are asking riders to arrive as early as 1:00 pm so that we can ask you to sign a new waiver for the 2019 season. In our first exec meeting this year, we identified a date problem with the forms you all completed at the AGM. We took the opportunity to make some other improvements to the form and will bring copies for you to sign. Alternatively, you can download the new form here, sign it, and bring it along to the ride. Our new secretary Brenda and VP responsible for safety, Pete, will have copies available, receive your signed form and make the process speedy and painless. If you have completed the new forms already at home, you can come at the regular time for the ride – though you’re still welcome to come early to reacquaint yourself with your fellow riders. Guests are welcome – they too will need to sign the waiver.

We look forward to seeing everyone after a long white winter.

Cycling from Brighton – Tuesday, November 6

Klaus is hosting our last Tuesday ride of the season. Join us for a 10:00 a.m. start to the ride at 75 Harbour Street in Brighton. Let’s all hope for decent weather.

We’ll be following the First Half Flat route starting and ending at the Whistling Duck in Gosport/Brighton where we will enjoy lunch together.

The Freewheelers cycle from Harold’s in Castleton early in the season. Klaus is front and centre at this ride, and leading Tuesday’s ride from Brighton.

Cycling from Cobourg – Saturday, November 3

Say it isn’t so! Next Saturday is our last official weekend ride of the 2018 season (Klaus is hosting the last Tuesday ride on November 6!). Ride starts at 2:00 pm. If you’re only coming for the potluck, aim to be there after 5:00.

Jacquie and Brian are hosting Saturday’s ride/potluck that will hopefully engage a full house! You’ll find their address in the Calendar or Member Directory.

Here is their invitation.

We will act as hosts for the Saturday, 3rd November ride from our home in Cobourg, to be followed by a pot luck. Please bring grub, to be shared, and your drinks and utensils, as always. The route map is on the website as ‘Brian N’s Favourite‘ – we will have some copies, but please print your own, if possible. For really slow riders (Brian N., for instance) a ride along Lakeshore and return, is a possible alternative.

See you there.
