Pete and Ruth invite you to join them at 10 am for a scenic ride along the Lake Ontario waterfront from Heydenshore Kiwanis Park in Whitby to Captain’s Walk in Pickering. (See map location at the bottom). This mostly flat and rolling route meanders through beautiful parkland, marsh and shoreline, and offers a cool lake breeze on a day that is expected to be sunny and hot!

There and back, the route is 45 kilometres. You can easily shorten it by turning back earlier or lengthen it by continuing past the turning point or end point. Note that the boardwalk just before the Captain’s Walk in Pickering was washed out last year, so you’ll need to carry or walk your bike 200 meters or so along the beach.

Join us after the ride for a bring-your-own picnic. The park where we start has easy access to the beach, and a splash pad for the kids at heart, so also bring your own swim suit and towel, if you think you might enjoy a dip.
The washrooms are not open at the starting point, but there is a Tim’s nearby at Victoria and Gordon as well as a Metro, both of which have washrooms (and food if you don’t pack a lunch!) There are porta potties along the route and public washrooms at the turning point.
If this is your first ride of the season, make sure you’ve signed your COVID 19 Waiver and read the GFW response time COVID 19.

We look forward to enjoying your company (from a safe distance) on a ride that promises to be delightful.

I’ll be there as well. Barry has another commitment in the early afternoon, so won’t make it.

Katherine Smith reminded us from the Facebook group that the 401 westbound has been a parking lot recently as a result of construction. May wish to get yourself to Wesleyville Road entrance before entering the highway.
