Alas, the weather did not cooperate last Tuesday, so Marshall is going to try again. If this posting looks familiar, it’s because it’s an exact copy of last Tuesday’s. The only difference for next Tuesday’s ride is that the weather is going to be awesome, right? Over to you Marshall.
Although Mother Nature seems a little slow of the start line, it’s that “blossom” time of the year – i.e., time for the Ganaraska Freewheelers’ 6th annual “Port Hope Blossom Ride”. Yes, it’s been 5 years since we headed out from the Port Hope Town Hall on our first blossom ride ending with an amazing time on The Beamish patio.
Come on out this Tuesday and join your biking friends on this annual fun ride. The route has been changed up a bit this year, but we’ll still be hitting all the usual “not to be missed” views – Baulch Rd lilac tunnel, Loyalist Road and 4th Line apple orchards, Bethel Grove hills of lilacs, Vimy Ridge lilac show plus climb and the amazing fields of lilacs at Cranberry Road and the 401.
All ending with lunch at The Beamish, hopefully on the patio.
Ride details at a glance are:
- Start location: Port Hope Town Hall (Victoria Street Ball Park for the non climbers)
- Time: 10:00 a.m.
- Distance: 58 kms with 3 shortcuts of 39, 45 or 50 kms
- Lunch: The Beamish (hoping for patio weather)
Here’s hoping that Mother Nature AND the Weather Gods are with us on Tuesday.
A special thanks to Barb and John for delaying their rides plans for this Tuesday to allow us to take another shot at the 6th annual Port Hope Blossom Ride.
The Blossom await us.
Just a reminder to print your own map by clicking on “The Route” link on the above posting.
Be sure to comment if you are planning to join us and be sure to state what starting point you plan to use.
Also Anderson Rd is not in the best of shape, hard packed but with some gravel in places. Its still bikable, just take your time as you work your way up to the apple blossoms on Loyalist.

Hopefully we can ride tomorrow, though the weather gods don’t look very supportive! Anyhow I would be starting at Kings Field, ie. Vic Park 😉 Not sure about Richard as he’s bruised his knee!

I really want to see Marshall’s blossoms and was thinking that, if it is raining, we could park downtown, do some car pooling and drive the route together. Lunch as planned? Anyone?

I drove some of the route this morning. The Lilacs are at peak, looking great but the apple blossoms are disappearing, turning to little apples or whatever they do.
The weather is concerning although they seem to be talking light rain. I’ve ridden in light rain before……Lets see what it like in the morning….If it too wet to ride, I’m all for a car drive and lunch. Its this week or not as the blossoms will be all gone in a few more days.

This not my idea of cycling weather but might be there for lunch, if it is a ‘go’
Any one else going – 12/12:30 – ??

I will ride if it is doable. Barry still has a cold.

It’s 6C this morning so I’ll have to dig out my winter gear for a short ride and lunch.

Looks like a miracle! the sun is shining, at least for a while. I want to start up at the park so John will sacrifice the climb to that spot for me. Staying for lunch

The Blossom ride is on.
Sure there’s a chance of rain at some point during the ride, but looking at the Weather Network Radar, I think we can slip in a ride.
See you all at the Lake Land parking lot (just to the south of Town Hall) or the Victoria St ballpark for non climbers at 10:00.
If you decide its too cold or you are scared of the rain, print a map anyway and drive the route. The Beamish is booked for 1:00 so plan accordingly.

Wonderful Blossom Ride Marshall! Thank you for all your hard work, the beautiful map with pictures! and arranging for the rain (mostly) to hold off for us. It was a lot of fun right down to the yummy pub lunch afterwards.
