Join us in St. Jacobs – July 26-28

Two great ways to travel!

Below is Sue’s invitation to join the Freewheelers in July for another wonderful weekend tour. Watch for more details and a dedicated page. For now, mark your calendars and let Sue know if you plan to join us.

Hi everyone,

Our weekend in St. Jacobs is shaping up with rides planned for Saturday and Sunday, and also Friday for those who arrive that day.  Spouses and friends are welcome to join us and will have to sign our waiver.

There are quite a few beautiful little villages in this lovely Mennonite area, including Elora, Elmira, Heidelberg, Fergus as well as St. Jacobs.  There will be long (about 80k) and short distance options each day. Learn more about the St. Jacobs area here.

We will check out the St. Jacobs Farmers Market before we set out on our ride Saturday since it is only open until 3:30 (starts at 7 in the morning).

I’m thinking of reserving a restaurant for our dinner on Saturday night if we have people interested in that. Or maybe just pizza in the dorms?

There are a few accommodation options.

  • Camping. You can camp (with Brian H. maybe) for approximately $39 per night plus a $13 reservation fee at  Laurel Creek Conservation Area, which is about a 10-min drive from St. Jacobs.  Please reserve your own site.
  • Wilfred Laurier University dorms.  There are five 5-bedroom apartments set aside for us at $169 per night – divided by 5 persons plus tax, the total per person is $33.80.  The bedrooms have a single bed and open onto a common livingroom/kitchen area with 2 or 3 bathrooms per apartment.  No cutlery, plates or pots and pans are provided, but you’ll have a microwave and a big fridge, and lots of counter space. Parking is free. The check-in office is open until 11pm and is located in the King Street Residence (200 King Street North). This  check-in building is different from the apartment-style residence where you will be staying. Visit their booking site to find out more. Please let Sue know if you plan on staying here as she is coordinating the allocation of rooms.
  • Holiday Inn in St. Jacobs. Rooms are $159 per night (plus tax) with 2 queen beds in each room/ or one king. This includes a full hot  breakfast and access to a swimming pool (with a dumping bucket, Richard). Parking and high speed internet are free. Microwave, fridge, coffee maker and 42″ flat screen TV are included.  If you plan on staying here, please book your own room as soon as possible, as they fill up fairly quickly at this prime time. Call 519-772-9800

Bonus!:  The Disney musical “Newsies” is playing that weekend at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse.  Hmm.  Friday night or Saturday night?  Click here to get your tickets.

I really like the music from “Newsies” and I am very interested in going one of the nights – Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Anyone else interested and, if so, which night?

    Hi Sue,
I’m interested in joining you in St Jacobs.
    Thanks for including NHCC members.
I would like to stay in the Wilfred Laurier firm accommodations if you still have space and dinner with the group would be lovely.
    Regards
    Heather
