Cycling from Peterborough – Tuesday, July 31

GFers at Harold's
Brian & Klaus have teamed up to lead the Freewheelers last Tuesday ride in July. Having participated in the Northumberland Hills ride from Peterborough, they loved the route so much, they decided that we should use it (slightly modified) for the GFW ride.
Meet at Beavermead Park at 2011 Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough for a 10:00 a.m. start. This will be a new route that starts by heading up the bike trail to Lakefield, then heads over to Bridgenorth before returning to Peterborough. This is essentially the “Kawartha Classic” route posted here: https://thekawarthas.ca/route-1a-lakes-rivers-and-cafes-45/. Brian is in charge of the route and he will post further details nearer the time.
Klaus is looking after the apres-ride dining arrangements, currently anticipated to be at the Kettle Drum on Hunter Street in Peterborough.
Save the date – Tuesday, July 31 – for this brand new route!

I believe Brian & Anita discussed to make this an “open” ride for others from NHCC as well.
Reservations have been made at the Kettle Drums for 1:00ish. They have a patio if weather permits. Check out their website for menu if you like (kettledrumsrestaurant.com)…there is also free parking😀
This was a great ride so of course I will be there!

The route for Tuesday’s ride is entitled “Kawartha Klassic”; however, since Ruth is on a well deserved vacation the route map will not likely make it to the Website in time for the ride. I will, therefore, email copies to some of the “Tuesday Regulars”. Let me know if you want a copy but did not receive one from me by email. The 50 km route is not too difficult at all since it starts and ends on some of Peterborough’s excellent bike paths. Although I have not marked a short route on the map I envisage some of you simply riding from Peterborough to Lakefield and back, which is about 32 km return. After Lakefield the 50 km route heads over to Bridgnorth before returning to Peterborough. There is, of course, excellent ice cream and coffee to be had in Lakefield 🙂

I have printed eight b+w copies of the Kawartha Klassic route map. Be sure to bring your own if you want a colourful one! Although the route map is not yet on the Website, I did email a copy to most of you. It should be a mighty fine day for riding as the forecast calls for a “mix of sun and cloud with a high of 26 C” 🙂

Unfortunately Laura needs her car for tomorrow so I won’t be able to make it. 😦 Unless you are going, Gail? Or I could get up really early and ride to Peterborough. Hmmm.
