Riding from Rice Lake Conservation Park – Tuesday, August 31

Barry and Liliane are hosting tomorrow’s ride in the Rice Lake area. Their invitation is below.

We will be riding the View the Two Lakes route out of Bewdley but starting and finishing at the Rice Lake Conservation Park on Cavan Rd. rather than the Bewdley Arena. Loads of shady spots in the park for our after ride picnic. Note there are no toilets but lots of bushes and trees. This is a beautiful, but hilly, 56K route with a 37K alternate route for those who may want a few less kms and hills.

Riding from the Port of Newcastle – Friday, August 27

Mich will lead Friday’s ride leaving at 5:00 pm from the parking lot at the bottom of Toronto Street in the Port of Newcastle. We can picnic afterwards on the grass by the lake if the mosquitoes aren’t too bad.

Ride will start with the paths heading west to Bowmanville including the new paths under the railway and 401 – 15 kms of paths before we start the country roads and no major hills. 47 kms total ride.

Maps will be provided, but usually we stick together.

Announcing new Ride Coordinators for rest of 2021 season – book your rides!

Freewheelers, you deserve a huge pat on the back for all of the work done in the last year and a half, hosting and coming to rides, resulting in more fun than we ever imagined. Who knew that Great Fitness, Great Food and Great Friends could flourish to such an extent during a pandemic? Who knew that bring-your-own outdoor distanced picnics could be so inclusive and lively? We are not out of the woods yet but it is good to know that we have been able to enjoy amazing cycling safely together. Let’s keep it going.

Thank you Ride Coordinators Sue and Brian for keeping us organized for rides for the first half of this summer. Now is the time to get your orders in to Marshall (Tuesdays) and Katherine (Fridays) to round out the season. There are blanks on the calendar so let’s fill them up in plenty of time so they won’t have to scramble.

Check your calendars! Pick a date! Host a ride!

Riding from Wicklow Beach – Tuesday, August 17

Barb and John are hosting tomorrow’s ride. See their invitation below and plan to ride!

John and I will host the ride on Tuesday August 17th starting at 10:00 a.m. As the Friday (Aug. 13) ride was rained-threatened out we will pick up the ride that Brian Hedney suggested using the Grafton East (31,36,50K) route but starting at Wicklow Beach. https://www.ontariotrails.on.ca/index.php?url=trails/view/wicklow—waterfront-trail. Lots of parking, a stony beach if you’d like an apres-ride dip and picnic area. King Road has been resurfaced and is a lovely little road to ride now. Please leave your comments (yea or nay and fun to ‘follow’). As there is almost always some threat of rain, we’ll watch and post a comment early.

Riding from Orono Park – Tuesday, August 10

Marshall will be leading this Tuesday’s ride and he invites you to join him at Orono Park at 10:00 for a fun 56 K (shorter 45 K also available) relatively flat ride through the Bowmanville and Newcastle area. The mixture of roads and bike paths includes the new path that goes under the 401 connecting Bowmanville safely to the Waterfront Trail.

Don’t forget your comfy chair, favourite beverage and yummy lunch for our picnic social in the park.

Just a thought, we’ll be passing through the Port of Newcastle, maybe allowing us a chance to have a sidewalk visit with Mel or better yet with Orono being so close, wouldn’t be great if Mel and Mich could join us at our picnic social.

A note from your Tuesday Ride Coordinators:

Sue has completed her Tuesday ride coordinating duties with this Tuesday’s ride and has now handed the baton on to Marshall. Loads of fun rides and socials, (both Tuesdays and Fridays) still ahead of us. Check out the club calendar, grab some of dates and let your second half coordinators (Tuesday Marshall and Friday Katherine) what dates you want.

Riding from Lindsay – Tuesday, August 3

This is a repeat of last Tuesday’s ride post.

Paul is our host for this Tuesday’s ride starting from Lindsay and travelling South past the Buddhist Temple near Bethany.

Here are instructions to the starting point:

Drive north on Hwy.#35. Continue north past Hwy.#7 into Lindsay. The road becomes Lindsay St. South (#15). Go past Kent St. and over the bridge (canal) and turn right on King St. Go one block and you will see a small park on your left. Park on the street.

Download and print the map that shows the 50-kilometre route.

Bring your picnic stuff! Hope to see you there.
