Riding from Castleton – Tuesday, September 25

Harold King of the Corn Field!

RIDE CANCELLED

Harold D. is your host for the next two Tuesday rides. Both rides will start from his home in Castleton. This Tuesday’s route will be a Warkworth Roller. Burgers are on Harold; bring along your potluck accompaniment, drinks, plates and utensils. Ruth is the backup lead for the ride, but she will be asking around to see if anyone who plans to attend would like to lead the ride.

Note:
In the spirit of a themed ride, we’re inviting members to donate to a Ganaraska Freewheelers food drive on the next three rides before Thanksgiving – i.e., the next two Tuesday rides hosted by Harold and Willy’s ride next Friday. We know you all have your favorite causes that you donate to, so certainly understand if you’d like to pass. However, in the spirit of gratitude for all the good things in our lives, as we near our Thanksgiving holiday, we’re asking you to bring a food offering for our club drive. If you’d prefer to give cash, Harold will have envelopes for you. We’ll aim to get all our donations to the food bank in time to be distributed for Thanksgiving. Thanks in advance!

Riding from Peterborough’s Beavermead Park – Sunday, September 16

Guess what Ruth is holding.

Weather is looking ominous for Friday and Saturday, so this week, we’ve moved the Friday ride to Sunday.

Meet Pete and Ruth at Beavermead Park in Peterborough for a 10:00 a.m. start. We’ll follow the  Lakefield and Young’s Point route, riding the trails to Lakefield, then over to Young’s Point. Full route is 57 but you can turn back anywhere along the trail or at Lakefield to shorten the route.

Join us afterwards for lunch at St. Veronus at 129 Hunter Street West.

Riding from Garden Hill – Friday, September 7

Pete and Ruth are hosting Friday’s ride starting at 5:30 from their place in Garden Hill.

The route is 44 kilometres with options to shorten to 34 and 20 kilometres. All options have hills as they are hard to avoid near us! We’ll have maps for everyone.

Make sure you have working lights! It’s getting dark earlier which is why we’re keeping the distance lower than usual.

Standard pot luck will follow – bring your stuff. There will be table tennis after dinner for those who are interested!

Exercise caution on the rough gravel driveway!

Ride Hosts Needed for September & October

Can you believe we’re more than 4 months into the cycling season? And what an awesome cycling season it’s been with a full slate of hosts for a variety of creative cycling events and agreeable weather to keep us warm and dry!

With only 2 months to go, there are a number of Tuesdays and Fridays just waiting to be adopted by a caring host. In fact all Tuesdays need a host and all but two Fridays. Do remember that Fridays in October are really Saturdays or Sundays depending on the whim of the host.

Step right up and claim your ride day – for Tuesdays, contact Sue; for Fridays, contact Pete. In both cases, copy ganaraskafreewheelers@gmail.com so I can start updating the calendar!

Riding from Smiley Road in Cobourg – Sunday,

If you’re hanging around this Labour Day weekend, you’ll want to join us for a joint NHCC ride and potluck hosted by Randy and Anita at 4 pm on Sunday (rain day Monday). Their invitation to this celebrate-an-awesome-summer-cycling-season event is below.

Might as well go Big! And with that, Randy and Anita are inviting ALL members (Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4) of both the NHCC and the Ganaraska Freewheelers for a Ride and Really Big Potluck on Sunday September 2.  (Rain date will be the following day, Monday).  If there is no fire ban in effect we’ll get the ole Bonfire burning. We’ll ride at 4:00pm and there will be distance options for everyone. We’ll ride an out-and-back route so that everyone finishes at the same time.

Here’s what you need to bring:

  • A shareable dish of some sort (don’t forget serving spoon etc.), and in true potluck style we aren’t organizing who-brings-what. Please make sure it’s ready-to-eat. We will have a number of power outlets if you need to plug in a slow cooker.
  • Bring your favourite beverage, plates and utensils
  • Bring a lawn chair

We’ll set up some tables outside and there are plenty of shady spots in the yard to sit and be social. If you can’t make it for the ride portion but want to partake in the Potluck you are welcome to do so. Feel free to bring your significant other.  If you are hesitating because you didn’t ride much and feel a little shy, don’t be, we’d love to have you there for some or all of the planned activities!

Ride time: 4:00pm
Potluck time: 6:00pm

RSVP (IMPORTANT): Please send us (Randy and Anita) a quick email nhcycling2010@gmail.com and leave a comment to let us know you’ll be there so we can plan a little.

Riding from Victoria Park, Port Hope – Tuesday, August 21
