A social club that cycles

The Ganaraska Freewheelers is a social cycling club.  We are a unique group of people whose activities reflect their collective appreciation of fitness, food and friends!

Our members take turns hosting rides, offering a variety of scenery and start locations from Bowmanville to Presqu’ile and from the Lake Ontario waterfront to Peterborough.

Twice weekly, from April to the end of October, we generally ride 50-60 kilometres  (with 30-kilometre options) at a moderate pace. E-bikes are welcome. We reward ourselves with an after-ride social at a restaurant, member home or park.

We are a year-round club – our members enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing together in the non-cycling seasons. During cycling season, we might also visit members’ cottages to enjoy a canoe or kayak paddle.

Our start locations for rides cover a wide swath of some of Ontario’s finest cycling roads and vistas.

We start our 30-60 km rides from anywhere in this beautiful area.

2023 Riding Season

We ride twice weekly.

Tuesday morning rides start at 10.

The second ride is typically on Friday. At the discretion of the host, this second weekly ride can be a day ride or evening ride or can move to Saturday or Sunday. If there is no host, default start time is 10:00 am on Fridays.

Here’s a ride out of Lindsay that took us to the Buddhist temple near Bethany. Lots of hills there too!
Our members spent time in the Principal’s office as teenagers. Two of them rode the 407 before it opened officially!
