Hosting a Ride
- Choose your date from any ride on the calendar that indicates “No Host”
Note that the default start time of 10:00am can vary. Ride hosts choose the start time and day – typically Tuesdays and Fridays, but can be also be Saturday or Sunday, if special events warrants—such as Omemee Bike Museum, Millbrook Farmer’s Market etc. - Contact your Ride Coordinator (contact information can be found in the password-protected Member directory.) let them know your preferred date(s) in person while out on a ride.
- Guest Waivers should be available in the event an unexpected Guest arrives to ride. Ride hosts should have waivers on hand. Please see Ride as a Guest
- Provide Details that include:
- Ride start location with parking instructions if applicable.
- Ride route map that you have either developed yourself, or chosen from our pre-existing route library on the GFW Website. Ride distances are typically around 50 km in length—one or more short-cuts are always appreciated. You can provide a link to the map that people will print out on their own, or print out maps yourself for distribution at the start of the ride. Ride distance may also be weather and daylight dependent.
Make sure to choose a route that avoids heavy traffic or increased riding risk. Also, pre-ride the route if possible to confirm it’s suitability – i.e., no emergent construction activities. - Après-ride social arrangements are wholly at the discretion of the Ride Host and may include at-home hosting, restaurant reservations, park picnic, or any other creative idea.
NEW: “Ride with GPS” Pilot and using “Facebook” for Events

In 2024 we will pilot a club membership to Ride with GPS where we will eventually host all of our maps. More information will be provided once we set up our account before the start of the riding season in March. In the meantime, click on the logo and take a look at what you might expect!

We will continue posting rides using the Events feature on our private Facebook Group page which provides a fantastic platform to share club photos, have discussions and share updates. The Facebook group is private, and accessible only to current members. Alternatively you can refer to the above calendar for ride details.
COVID-19 in 2024
As of March 21, 2022 masking and restricting indoor activities is no longer required. However, we invite members to use their own discretion to decide whether to host a picnic style event that enables social distancing (and has become a GFW norm), or an indoor or patio restaurant or a potluck at their home – indoor or outdoor.
Your Executive will monitor the status of COVID-19 throughout the season from month to month. We look forward to a less restrictive cycling season, but are prepared to change course as necessary in order to comply with Ontario government COVID-19 regulations and maintain safe practices.
If you plan to join a ride in 2024, you must sign and submit to the Ride Leader or member of the Exec the COVID-19 Waiver and read the GFW Response to COVID-19 which you can download here. You need to sign it only once for the season. Most of you will have signed it at the November AGM.
