What & Where? When? How to participate?
Hammer of Hope
Hope & Harcourt Streets, Port Hope
April 27, 2013
8:30 am
The Hammer of Hope Ride is an annual fundraising event that is initiated by Terry Petkau, Director of Building Services with Habitat Canada.  Terry does this prior to the onset of the Habitat Canada’s Annual General Meeting.  This year the AGM is being held in Niagara Falls.  His ride is planned by distance and time so he arrives for the first day of the AGM.
Each year he designates an area for the raised funds to go to. This year riders can direct the fundraising to their local affiliate or to the general fundraising pool of Habitat Canada. 10% of all funds raised go to the ongoing rebuilding effort in Haiti. Terry thought it appropriate to kick off his ride this year on Hope St. & Harcourt St. in Port Hope. His first day will see him leave Port Hope at 8:30 am and arrive in East York around 5:00 pm. Our plans are to accompany him to the west border of Northumberland County. Hopefully Habitat Durham will be there to greet him and continue westward. Participants can choose the distance they want to cycle. Their route out of Northumberland is along Lakeshore Road.
Donate Your Bicycle
Cycle Transitions, Cobourg
April 20 & 27, 2013
9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Bring in for donation any bicycle as long as it has potential for refurnishing or for parts (please, no junk bikes!).  Cycle Transitions (CT) will refurbish the bicycle and put it up for sale at very low cost to the community, or use it for parts.   Some of the bicycles will be available for our “Sweat Equity” program – individuals can receive credit by volunteering at CT and in return use that credit to build their own bicycle from CT stock. Read Bicycle Drive April 2013 for more details.
Bike & Gear Swap
Cycle Transitions, Cobourg
June 8, 2013
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
The Swap opens at 10:00am Saturday, which is when you will find the best selection. Prices on all used equipment are determined by the individual sellers. All sales are final and paid to the individual sellers.  There are no warranties on Swap merchandise unless the individual seller gives one. The used equipment is only at Cycle Transitions for the designated day and potential buyers cannot preview the equipment before the Swap opens on Saturday. Read Bike and Gear Swap 2013 for more details.

I would suggest that GFW change the Friday, June 7 ride (since no one seems to have claimed it!) to Saturday, June 8 to coincide with the “Harold turns 81” ride!!

You could then go to the “Cycle Transitions” event to swap your bike ’cause it didn’t help you complete the “Harold turns 81” ride.
