Cycling from Cobourg – Friday, August 16

Hey Freewheelers – we had a last minute change to our schedule so we’re making Friday’s ride a downtown Cobourg start location so that we can all enjoy Ribfest as a reward! No cookin’ required, just feastin’. Or festin’.

Check back on this post later today to see which route we have decided will work best. Considering Town & Country, the Turkey Ride or Hamilton Heights. If you have thoughts, please comment. We’ll follow the suggestion of Klaus, seconded by Pete to do Brian N.’s Favorite route. Those participating can agree on how far they want to go and how many hills they want to climb in advance of the rib feast.

We suggest you find parking wherever you can near Ribfest. We will meet on our bikes at a central location by 5:30 – i.e., the parking lot behind the Dutch Oven where we typically meet. If you can park there, great, alternatively, Barb has investigated some alternatives. Her discoveries about the event and the parking options are below.

Here’s the need to know site for Ribfest:

  • It is free to get in
  • No bikes, water bottles, bags, and the like.  
  • Vendors post their prices

Here’s a map of free parking (well 2 hours but I’m sure the meter gestapo leave work at 4:30 Friday night) in downtown Cobourg.  The Trinity lot is usually good, particularly on the elbow down to Swayne Street.  It isn’t far to walk from there.  I will also pop in to at 66 King tomorrow and ask Edward who owns it if we can park in his side lot right across from Vic Park.  He closes at 5:00.  We may all have to promise to stop in sometime for a coffee and sweet, but that is no problem as it is a wonderful place.

    Thanks for the amazingly wonderful post! You are extraordinary. I will go for a drive to check out Cornish hollow.

    I am on the long schedule for rotary duty and still not sure of what the day is going to bring for me.

  3. I hope to ride and suggest we do Brian Neal’s favourite ride. There are many options including a simple out and back. It would also be easy to avoid Cornish Hollow AND the eastern part of Community Centre. For example: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30843042
    Also, we have four visitor parking spaces at our building and if they are unoccupied you are welcome to use them. If anyone should ask, just tell them you are visiting us (Unit 6D)…first come first served.

It doesn’t look like there will be too many of us but I checked with Edward who owns Meet at 66 King East and he says we can park in their second lot which is attached to but east of their main parking lot. It is directly across from Victoria Park and accessed from the driveway beside Dairy Dream or from Swayne Street behind (one way going east).

      1. Behind the Dutch Oven might be full. I was downtown today and the park is packed with tents. Busy place. We can check both locations, or text when we get there. We will park at Dairy Dream.
